The successful testing of the indigenous anti drone system developed by India through DRDO is a major milestone in defence technology. The laser weapon system is designed to destroy drones, missiles and other airborne threats with pinpoint accuracy at the speed of light.
The test of the 30kW Directed Energy Weapon (DEW), a highly advanced weapon, was carried out by the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization) at Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. DEW has performed effectively on target drones, swarm drones, surveillance devices, and antennas. India can be counted amongst the countries such as America, China, and Russia that have sophisticated laser defense weapons.
India’s anti-drone technology makes use of a laser beam that emits high levels of energy to counter the threat in a matter of seconds. In contrast to other missile-based defence technologies, laser-based technologies offer reduced operational costs and rapid response times when responding to enemy threats.
This laser gun was invented by the Centre for High Energy Systems and Sciences (CHESS) of DRDO in Hyderabad. According to sources, it has demonstrated great precision, and the target’s sensor and drone body have been effectively damaged through trials.

Given that there is an increasing tendency to incorporate drones in warfare, there is now an urgent need for a robust anti-drone defense mechanism. This aspect can be effectively fulfilled by the deployment of India’s newly developed anti-drone laser weapon.
In addition, this successful experiment has also helped the government in its “Make in India” campaign, as it is an indigenous technology in defense weaponry that does not rely heavily on any foreign weaponry system. It is believed that laser weapons are the way forward in future warfare due to their efficiency.
The creation of this anti-drone system by India is an important milestone in enhancing the defence capability of the nation and improving technology.
